storm chasing season has begun...

and ended just that quick. it is currently 32 degree out with 15-30 mph winds and snow. we have about a half inch of snow on the ground. been like that all day. it is a stark contrast from what we had yesterday. we had a hi of 67 degrees and we were expecting thunderstorms. come 3:00pm and the cold front came though. the wind shifted 180 degrees from the southeast to the northwest and the the temp. dropped 20 degrees in a few minutes.

also i did go storm chasing yesterday, hence the title of this blog entry. nothing really of note popped up until late yesterday. i initially positioned myself about 3 miles west of wall, SD. saw some really interesting clouds (lower lever clouds were rushing to the southeast while the main thunderstorm clouds were moving to the northeast) and some hail up to a half inch in diameter. it was a good thing i didn't put myself in wall itself. they got hammered. they got so much hail that it made the ground white and driving difficult. i happened to be on the very west edge of that hail shaft, but i didn't see as much hail as they got. the rest of the chase i didn't see much except for a lot of lightning and some nice rainbows. this was the first time i have seen hail that actually produced a significant accumulation on the ground. just about everyone else from the department was out chasing yesterday as well. shawn and Joanna headed down to nebraska, but did not have much luck where they were. john, matt, and chris were a little farther east then me and saw the hail shaft that passed over wall. they saw just about everything that i saw as well.

nothing much else to report except that my sister is mad at me. if you want to know, ask her about why she supports a ban on water. :)
